SETTING

The story takes place in the late 1600s when the Spanish were still in rule over the Philippines. One bright and sunny morning we find Fray Villalobos and Monja Barraquias, on their saddled horses, all packed and ready to go on their journey in saving the unsaved souls of the Indios of different lands.

TONE

The story was written in a melodramatic way. Telling how Monja remembers her friend, Fray Villalobos, during their Saturday journeys of culinary experience and sharing the faith of the Tres Hermanas to save the immortal souls of the Indios.

ATMOSPHERE

The writer’s goal is to make the readers enjoy the culture, food, and the stories of these Indios while being sympathetic. It builds excitement in the minds because the story is unpredictable. The writer left the reader’s imagination to develop the images in their minds of the places, people, and the food that has been told.
